Salal Charter
Preamble:
We, the members of The Society for the Advancement of Local Arts and Literature (SALAL), recognizing the importance of fostering and facilitating unique arts and literature within geographic locations, hereby establish this organizational charter to guide and govern our actions and activities.
Principal 1
The Society for the Advancement of Local Arts and Literature rejects the homogeneity of culture, therefore its chief aim is to foster and facilitate arts and literature unique to the geographic locations in which they are taking place. We believe that diversity in culture is essential for the development of individuals and communities, and we strive to promote and celebrate the arts and literature that reflect the unique characteristics of different regions.
Principal 2
We believe that free, open, and honest criticism of arts, literature, and culture are necessary for the development of not only individuals but communities as well. We recognize that constructive criticism helps artists and writers improve their craft and creates a dialogue that leads to a deeper understanding and appreciation of different perspectives.
Principal 3
We stand firmly against censorship and encourage freedom of individual choice in the consumption of arts and literature. We believe that individuals should have the right to choose what they read and view without fear of censorship or suppression.
Principal 4
We believe that while education is paramount in the creation of quality arts and literature, we understand that education takes on many forms both inside and outside the academy. We encourage lifelong learning and support education in all its forms, including workshops, lectures, mentorship programs, and self-directed learning.

Principle 5:
We believe that while individuals are free and autonomous beings, each individual has a responsibility to the community. We encourage members to actively participate in the community and to use their skills and talents to promote the arts and literature. We also promote ethical and responsible behavior and have faith in the individual's moral compass.
Membership:
Membership in SALAL is open to all individuals and organizations who share its principles. We encourage participation from individuals and organizations who are passionate about the advancement of local arts and literature, regardless of any immutable characteristics. We value diversity of thought and believe that it is crucial to the success of our organization.
Therefore, the Society for the Advancement of Local Arts and Literature is committed to promoting and celebrating unique arts and literature, encouraging free and open dialogue, supporting education, and fostering responsible behavior. We pledge to uphold these principles and to work towards the advancement of arts and literature in our communities.
